How to care for your sterling silver jewellery.

Sterling silver is made to be worn, loved, and lived in, and with the right care will last a lifetime. But like all natural materials, it does change over time. That soft darkening you might see is called a patina, and it’s completely normal (and often part of the charm). With a little care, your pieces will stay beautiful for years to come.

Silver reacts to certain elements, which can cause it to darken more quickly. Remove your jewellery before washing, swimming, or applying products (it makes a big difference). Your natural skin chemistry can affect how quickly silver tarnishes, and some people may notice faster darkening than others (this is completely normal). Wearing your jewellery often can actually help keep it bright through gentle friction.

Keeping your silver shiny is simple. For light tarnish use a soft polishing cloth to gently buff to restore shine. For heavier tarnish use a polishing cloth with a small amount of silver polish. Just avoid anything too abrasive.

Many pieces are designed with darker details, so avoid over-polishing these areas if you want to keep that contrast.

When you’re not wearing your jewellery, store in a dry place such as a box or pouch and keep separate to prevent scratching. Avoid leaving them in humid areas (like bathrooms). For extra care, silica packets can help absorb airborne moisture in storage (I save them from other parcels and pop them into my stock drawers).

A Little Note - Tarnishing / oxidisation is a natural property of sterling silver. It’s not a fault, and it doesn’t mean your piece isn’t genuine. In fact, it’s often a good sign that it is.
